What is Palm Jumeirah?
If you are not familiar with Dubai, and the property industry there, the query ‘What is Palm Jumeirah?’ may have come into your head. It is a truly amazing development, a man-made island built off the Jumeirah Beach coast of Dubai.
The island is quite unique, as you will see it is built with a range of ‘fronds’ on which luxury properties have been constructed.
The Palm Jumeirah was the brain-child of a Dubai Government building company, Nakheel. It was designed and developed by Helman Hurley Charvat Peacock Architects, Inc. and is one of three planned islands referred to in the Emirate as the Palm Islands. The other two islands are Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira. The three man-made islands increase Dubai’s shoreline by almost 520 kilometres (around 320 miles).
Construction began in June 2001 with handover of the first residential units occurring in 2006. By 2009 there were also 28 hotels operating on the crescent shaped island. It is connected to the mainland by a series of roadways as well as the Palm Jumeirah Monorail, a 5.4 km railway connecting the Atlantis Hotel at the tip of the island to the intersection with the mainland.
Of the three islands Palm Jumeirah is the most central, the smallest, the first constructed and currently the only one to have been completed by Nakheel.
Palm Jumeirah is home to properties owned by the rich and famous around the world, with many of the larger villas on the fronds accessible by boat. If you would like to sell a property on Palm Jumeirah please do drop us a line at info@SellDubai.co.uk.
