Dubai Theme Parks
There are signs that the current Dubai Theme Parks are starting to build a solid financial footing. A recent report by Euromonitor International, commissioned by The Leisure Show Dubai in 2015 suggest that theme park revenues across the Emirates will have increased by 78% by 2019. It is suggested that the current turnover of US$470m will increase to US$837m.
At the moment there are five theme parks under development across the United Arab Emirates. Three of these are within the significant Dubai Parks and Resorts development.
The three massive Florida-style theme parks being built on the Sheikh Zayed Road between Dubai and Abu Dhabi are now estimated to be half-completed.
The centre of the Bollywood Park, an 800-seat theatre shaped like the Taj Mahal, is almost complete and now quite visible. In Legoland Dubai the development’s first roller coaster has now been installed.
The parks are being built on a 25 million square feet construction site. Hollywood-themed Motiongate Dubai, Legoland Dubai and Bollywood Parks Dubai are all slated to open in October 2016.
The delayed IMG Worlds of Adventure park is also due to open in 2016 having postponed earlier opening dates in both 2014 and 2015.
The United Arab Emirates is trying to establish itself as one of the world’s premier Theme Park destinations. Currently none of its Theme Parks are ranked in the top 25 Theme Park destinations across the world. It is anticipated, however that the UAE will transform itself into a world-class leisure and entertainment destination in the coming years.
It is estimated that Theme Parks in the UAE could see as many as 18 million visitors by 2021. Competitor Hong Kong, in contrast, only expects to attract 15 million with attractions such as Ocean Park and Hong Kong Disneyland.
